James Maddison has lauded Pape Matar Sarr for providing an ‘unbelievable’ assist for Tottenham Hotspur today.
Tottenham thrashed Aston Villa 4-0 away from home on Sunday afternoon to keep their hopes of a top-four finish well and truly alive.
After a cagey first half, Ange Postecoglou’s men outclassed Villa during the second period.
James Maddison opened the scoring with a simple finish after a delightful delivery from Pape Matar Sarr.

The 21-year-old was set away down the right-hand side and delivered an inch-perfect ball into the box to pick out Maddison. And it’s fair to say that Maddison was impressed with the Spurs youngster’s assist.
Maddison lauds ‘unbelievable’ Sarr
Speaking to BBC Sport’s Match of the Day, Maddison reflected on a statement win at Villa Park.
“I’ve been in the box a lot lately but it hasn’t been falling to me,” the Englishman said. “The manager is always saying just keep making the runs.
“It was an unbelievable delivery from Pape Sarr, it was just about getting a foot to it.
“We kind of kick them again while they’re down. It’s a trend of how we play. It might take us 70 minutes to score one goal, but then we score two in five.
“I love the way this manager wants us to play, I love the way the team plays, the personal in this side. It suits me. I feel like I’m getting somewhere close to my best again.
“Game by game, we’re still trying to build something here longer term. Sorry for the boring cliché answer!”

Sarr has been struggling with a back issue since returning from AFCON 2024 but the youngster continues to impress in midfield.
The Senegalese midfielder lasted until the 70th minute today, with Rodrigo Bentancur replacing him in midfield.
While many expected Sarr to lose his place in the side to Bentancur, he once again proved his importance to Postecoglou’s side today.
The youngster has also developed his game in the final third and is having a real impact at both ends of the pitch.
